Adolescent Counseling Services
Adolescence is a time of great change. During these years, young people experience physical growth, mental development and emotional changes. As a parent your goal during this time of life is to help your teen become an independent responsible adult.
Teen years can be stressful on everyone involved. While teens are no longer children, they are not yet adults. They may be confused about how they are and how they should act. Chances are your teen will make it through adolescence just fine, but they need your help. Traits like self-centeredness, idealism, being critical of self and others, rebellion and deeply invested in their friends are traits that are unpleasant at times, but they are normal. And while challenge, and even some conflict, is a normal part of this stage of development, outside support, encouragement and perspective can help.
Professional counseling can help adolescents:
- Identify their strengths
- Help them make better decisions
- Clarify values
- Improve coping skills
- Effectively communicate
Other issues covered in Adolescent Counseling services:
- Self-Esteem & Assertiveness
- Depression & Anxiety
- Peer Pressure & Popularity
- Drugs, Sex, & Alcohol
- Body Image & Eating Disorders
- Anger & Acting out
- Family Relations
- School & Achievement Pressures
- Coping with Divorce
Adolescent counseling services are done in an individual therapy format. Parents are interviewed during the first session and typically, thereafter, are only brought into the therapy session as specific issues arise or if safety and well-fare issues are identified. If you are seeking Family Therapy, I am happy to refer you to a local, Licensed Child and Family Therapist.
As a seasoned clinician, with over 13 years experience working with adolescents in a wide spectrum of settings, adolescents that are 15 years of age and older will benefit most from the counseling services that I provide. Younger children are served best by clinicians specializing in child psychology and utilize therapy techniques such as play-therapy, art-therapy, etc., and have specific training and experience in early-childhood/child psychology.
